What Causes Rheumatoid
Arthritis ? Common Causes of Arthritis
Researchers and scientists alike have been battling with what causes Rheumatoid Arthritis for years. Coming from
the Greek “arthron” meaning joint and the Latin “itis” meaning inflammation, arthritis is a disorder
which affects the joint – a part of the body where two bones meet whose function is to allow movements of
different body parts.
It has been considered to be the most common cause of disability among people aged 55 years and above.
There are over 100 kinds of arthritis and the number is continually growing. At the
moment, its most common type is Osteoarthritis. Although arthritis generally affects older people, there are
some types which can affect people younger people.
Genetics - A Factor in What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis There are many
factors which contribute to the development of arthritis in both old and young people. Age generally is a factor
which is taken into consideration. As people age, cartilages become more brittle and it no longer has the
ability to regenerate. Because of this, people have higher chances of developing arthritis as they grow older.
Although it is not yet fully known how, genetics is believed to contribute to arthritis as well – particularly
certain genetic variations. If people in your family have arthritis, your chances of having it will be high.
Weight - Another Factor in What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis
Weight has a significant impact in the probability of developing arthritis. Extent of damage to the joint
depends on the amount of weight it supports. Knee and hip joints can easily wear off if the weight it carries is
too heavy. This in turn can lead to arthritis.
It is also important to note that previous injuries can contribute to developing arthritis as well as other
medical conditions and mixed infection syndromes including Glandul and Fever and chronic fungal and bacterial
infections. Certain jobs which have high physical demands are also thought to have an
effect. With regards to sports, although it can lead to joint fractures it is believed that its
benefits outweigh risks which are related to arthritis.
Other Common Causes of Arthritis - Poor Diet
Aside from these, there are also internal and external factors that should be considered, the primary of
which is having poor diet. In order to avoid the risk of having arthritis, eating junk food and other processed
food should be limited. Overwork and not having enough sleep and exercise should also be avoided as having an
unhealthy lifestyle is another factor. Although unknown to many, having emotional problems is also considered
to be a risk to having arthritis. Having such long term problems may lead to drug and alcohol abuse which can
take its toll on a person’s health and well-being.
Toxin Exposure - Yet Another Factor in What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis
Exposure to heavy metal toxins including lead, mercury and aluminum and chemical toxins including chemicals,
pesticides and sprays also have an effect. These toxins are usually used in the food, dental and agricultural
industries.
