Herbal Remedy For
Rosacea
Rosacea is a general reddening of facial skin that generally afflicts women more than men and those who are
usually between 30 and 60 years old. Symptoms may include pimples and varicose veins in addition to redness and
swelling. Red patches on the cheeks, chin and nose are also common.
Although there has been a ton or research done on it, the exact cause of rosacea still eludes research. There is
some evidence that points to genetic factors, while some research supports that those who are naturally prone to
blushing more often are afflicted.
Triggers to this condition vary from alcohol use, stress or anxiety to consumption of spicy foods
and even minimal sun exposure. A great deal of treatments involve simply avoiding the condition that
triggers it in the first place so if you find that sun exposure aggravates your rosacea then it is best to avoid
sun exposure.
The bulk of herbal remedies used to combat rosacea are based in the fact that they have inflammatory properties
which helps reduce redness, itchiness and other symptoms associated with rosacea.
Lavender oil which contains a form of alcohol called linalool helps to reduce inflammation and redness. It should
be applied after a through face washing and be left on for about 45 minutes to an hour.
Feverfew is another herbal remedy that many use to get relief from rosacea.
Oatmeal has excellent moisturizing properties. The proteins and polysaccharides found in
oatmeal bind to the skin creating a superior barrier that keeps moisture in. Often those afflicted with rosacea
have skin that lacks the sealing and protective properties of more healthy skin. Healthy skin acts as a barrier to
contaminants that acidic or basic. Because oatmeal binds to skin, this is why it often eases itchiness.
Tea Tree oil has antibacterial properties that helps reduce both itchiness as well as
inflammation
as it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. A word of caution though as some have allergic reactions
and experience dermatitis related problems with it.
There are a variety of creams you can buy that contain many of these natural compounds to help ease symptoms.
Chrysanthellum Indicum cream which strengthens capillaries is a common natural treatment and there are many others
that have different herbs and concentrations.
