Alternative Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a joint disorder which affects the small joints of the hands and the feet. It
occurs in older people but also occurs in younger men and women. It is believed to be an autoimmune disease.
This means that the immune system attacks tissues which line the joint. There is no scientific cure yet for
Rheumatoid Arthritis. However, there are several natural treatments which are available to help reduce the
severity of its symptoms.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment with Fish Oil
There are studies which strongly suggest that omega-3 fatty acids greatly benefit Rheumatoid Arthritis
sufferers. Studies have proven that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties which help in
reducing joint swelling. Omega-3 fatty acids are only obtained through diet.
Food rich in omega-3 include cold water fish like salmon, sardines and
anchovies. Since these fish can contain fairly high levels of mercury, PCB and other
chemicals, it is more advisable to get your omega-3's in a purer form by takeing fish oil capsules.
Flaxseed oil can be taken as an alternative to fish oil but it does not have the same
anti-inflammatory effects. Fish oil capsules are sold in health stores, drugstores and online.
Do not take Fish oil supplements if you are taking blood thinning medication including warfarin and
aspirin.
Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment with Boswelia An herb native to
India, Boswelia is known to help fight inflammatory chemicals. It is usually taken by
people with Rheumatoid Arthritis or other inflammatory medical conditions.
A couple of studies have also suggested that Boswelia may be effective in the reduction of Rheumatoid Arthritis
symptoms. Boswelia can be taken in pill form. Read the label and make sure it says it contains 60
percent Boswellic acid. It is usually taken for eight to twelve weeks. Do not take it beyond this
period unless you are under the supervision of a medical professional.
Devil’s Claw is a plant seen in South Africa. For thousands of years, it has been used
to treat fever, Rheumatoid Arthritis and other diseases of the gallbladder, stomach, kidneys and
pancreas.
Parsley juice is also recommended for Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferers. It is known to be
effective in flushing uric acid out of the body. This in turn helps ease pain in joints and limbs. One
teaspoon of Parsley juice should be taken for six weeks to see results. Wait for at least three weeks before
taking it again.
Dandelion is also good in getting rid of uric acid in the body. It helps to lessen
the frequency and the severity of joint pain. It also helps strengthen the joints’ connective tissues. It can be taken three times a
day if in capsule form, 1 tablespoon a day of Dandelion juice or a cup of Dandelion tea.
Do this continuously for four to six weeks. Danedelion has been used as an alternative treatment for
arthritis for ages.
There are many natural treatments available for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Keep in mind that these are not meant to
replace medications. Instead, these can be taken alongside it. Make sure to discuss it with you doctor as
they will know what is best for you.
