Home Remedies for
itching
and a Folk Remedy for Itchy Skin
Although people can easily buy over the counter topical products for it, there are different home
remedies for itching that can be just as effective and more affordable as well. Itching is one of the most
common symptoms of Eczema. Most people suffering from Eczema have made it a habit to scratch itchy parts of
their skin and the brain sees this as a self-treatment to itching. As everyone knows however, this kind of
itch relief is only temporary and can in fact cause more damage to the skin. Here then are some good home
remedies for itching that is caused by Eczema.
Did you know that if the skin is more hydrated, itching is can be reduced?
This is the reason why one of the simplest home remedies for itching is to keep the skin
moisturized. It is best to moisturize the skin at least twice a day. For people suffering from Eczema, it is
advisable to use an emollient to moisturize. What is an emollient? It is simply a lotion that has higher oil
consistency than the usual lotions that people use.
Aside from being used as a moisturizer, emollient also comes in oil form and can be added to a bath and can even be
applied to the skin while taking a shower. If the weather is hot, you can place the emollient in the refrigerator
so that it will be cool and more soothing when applied to the skin.
Another good home remedy for itching is by having an Oatmeal bath. Oatmeal is known
to be effective in reducing the itch related to Eczema. You can
use the oats that you typically buy in stores. Add it to a bath’s that lukewarm. Add to the water one to two
cups of the oats. If you are experiencing more severe itch, you can add more oats to your bath.
If you do not have oats, you can instead add Apple Cider to your bath. Apple cider vinegar is
good in killing the bacteria which may be causing the itch. Add two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar to your bath
to relieve skin itch.
Speaking of vinegar, among the easiest home remedies for itching is by applying a mixture of vinegar
and water directly on itchy skin. As mentioned above, vinegar is antibacterial and antifungal. Mild acid is
known to disrupt the growth of yeasts and fungus without doing harm on the skin. Combine five parts vinegar
with five parts. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture on the affected area. Make sure to rinse the area
afterward.
In order for the said home remedies for itching to be effective, it is important to keep certain things in mind.
First, prevent yourself from scratching. The more you scratch, the itchier it will get. Also, clean your home and
keep irritants at bay. You should also make sure that your home is cool as itching can, at times, be sweat induced.
It is also important to know that itching can be caused not only by Eczema but also by other factors such as
allergies, thyroid problems and psychological stress.
