Home Remedies For Curing Acne
Here are some tried and tested home remedies for curing acne, but it all starts with good common sense daily
skin care.
A good daily skin care routine is important. Following one tremendously helps to have and maintain an acne free
skin. Basic skin care is composed of 4 steps namely:
-
Cleansing
-
Exfoliating
- Moisturizing
- Applying sunscreen
It is important though to determine beforehand your skin type – dry, oily,
normal/combination, sensitive or even sun-damaged. From hereon, you will be able to develop a
skin routine which will be suitable for you.
The first step for acne free skin care routine is cleansing. Cleansing keeps the skin free from dirt, excess
oil, sweat and makeup. Although it can be tough, the secret is to find a skin cleaner that will work well for
you. Once you have found it, stick with it.
It is advisable to opt for liquid cleaners as bar soaps may only dry your skin.
A creamy cleanser would work best for dry skin while clear ones will be good for oily skin. For acne prone
skin, you may want to choose a cleanser with salicylic acid. Also, be careful not to clean your face too
often. Washing at night before going to bed should be sufficient.
Home Remedies For Curing Acne - Facial
cleansers
If you want to try a good natural facial cleanser, mix in a bowl 1 tablespoon of Olive
Oil and 2 tablespoons of dark Brown Sugar. Apply it to your face in a circular
motion for a minute. After, rinse with warm cloth and water. You might be hesitant to try it because of its
grease but after removing it, you will notice how soft and silky your skin will feel.
For dry skin, try an Almond / Milk Cleanser. You will need
- 1 teaspoon of Almond Oil
- 2 tablespoons of Whole Milk and
- 1 teaspoon of Honey
Apply the mixture to face in circular motion for 1-2 minutes and rinse with a warm cloth and water.
Home Remedies For Curing Acne - Exfoliating
scrubs
The next step is exfoliating. Many make the mistake of thinking exfoliation is not an important part of skin
care. Exfoliation scrubs away dead skin cells which cause pore clogging, dry skin and acne. It also helps
smooth and soften the skin. There are several ways to exfoliate the skin – the most popular being
microdermabrasion or scrubs. Make sure to choose a gentle scrub with tiny beads as big beads will only damage the
skin. Exfoliation can be done once a week.
Here's how to make a natural homemade exfoliating scrub. Use your hand or a grinder to crush:
- 2-3 tablespoons of Raw Oats (not the pre-cooked type of oats).
- Blend it with Pure Honey and
- ¼ teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar until the mixture becomes smooth. If needed, add more honey.
Finish off by adding a drop of Basil Oil.
For acne prone skin, you can substitute Basil Oil with Tea Tree Oil. Make sure to
apply the mixture to your face after washing it. Avoid the eye area. Leave it for 15 minutes before rinsing
thoroughly with tepid water. Although the preparation is messy, it brings excellent results to skin.
Regarding toning, some swear by it and some do not. The purpose of toners are to remove excess
traces of oil, dirt or makeup on the skin. However, if you have a good cleansing regimen then toning
the skin would be unnecessary. It is more of a personal preference. Toning is not necessary but if you feel
that using it contributes to having acne clear skin then stick with it. A homemade facial toner can be as simple
as mixing honey and olive oil. Apply it to the face and rinse well.
No matter what skin type you have, it is important to moisturize your skin. This step should not be
skipped. It is also not true that oily skin does not need to be moisturized. Oily skin can benefit from oil
free moisturizers. If your skin tends to feel more tight and dry then it needs to be moisturized more often. Be
careful however as over-moisturizing the skin may lead to pores getting clogged.
Home Remedies For Curing Acne - Facial Moisturizers
Prepare a homemade facial moisturizer by mixing:
- 3 tablespoons of Wheat Germ Oil,
- 3 tablespoons of Honey,
- 1 ounce of Witch Hazel,
- 1 ounce of Glycerin
- Half an ounce of Rose Water.
Blend all these ingredients together until it becomes a cream. Store it in a jar for future use.
Yogurt-Honey moisturizer is also an easy to make homemade facial moisturizer. Take the juice of half a lemon
and mix it with 1 ½ teaspoon of honey and 3 tablespoon of whipped egg white (1 egg). Beat all the
ingredients well. Apply it to the face and leave for 15 minutes before washing with lukewarm water.
Many dermatologists have said that applying sunscreen is the most important part of one’s skin care routine.
Sun damage is the number one cause of wrinkles which is why it is important to use sunscreen
in your early years. Sunscreen should also be applied even on cloudy days and winters and not just when the sun
is out. Choose a moisturizer with UV protection to be able to get two benefits in one. It is
recommended to buy two different moisturizers – one to use the morning and the other at night. Do
not use a moisturizer with built in sunscreen at night as the ingredients of this are not meant to be used on the
skin for a long period of time.
Having an acne free skin depends on a consistent daily skin care routine. As this only takes a few minutes of
your time everyday, make sure to follow it and stick to it in order to have and maintain a clear, acne free
skin.
