Herbal Sleep Remedies
Some effective and widely used herbal sleep remedies are Valerian and Chamomile, passion flower, Jamaican
dogwood, melatonin and lemon verbena.
Valerian is probably has been widely documented to be quite effective in helping one get that much sought
after peaceful rest. Literally hundreds of studies have been done on this non-addictive herb.
But because of it's fairly foul taste, it's best taken in capsule form. This herb is fairly slow acting so it
will take time to start to feel the effects. Many studies show that it helps especially with irregular sleepers. It
can be as tincture (20 drops or so with water) or as a tea.
Other Effeccive Herbal Sleep Remedies Passion flower is also widely used for helping slow
down the mind so you can sleep. It's also used by those suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. Like Valerian it
has been used for centuries to promote deeper sleep.
Jamaican Dogwood, a powerful herbal sleep remedy is effective in the relief of nervous tension, calms down the
mind helping it get away from overly persistent or habitual thoughts. It's also effective for relieving menstrual
pain.
Melatonin also aids with sleep and is widely used in the west. It's very affordable and is available in pill
form. Taking too much melatonin will cause grogginess or a slight "hangover" however.
A nice warm but not too hot (excessive heat can stimulate the body) cup of chamomile tea is also widely used for
inducing drowsiness. It eases digestion and has antiseptic qualities. Lemon verbena is another soothing tea before
bed time.
