Home Remedies for Eczema
Eczema is a common skin disorder that effects roughly one-quarter of the U.S. population. Although it is a more
common disorder in children, as many "outgrow" this pesky affliction within a year or two, but many adults struggle
with it too.
Affected areas will usually be red, scaly and very itchy. Although the exact causes of eczema isn't known it is
commonly believed that it is due to a hyper reactive immune system. Environmental irritants also can trigger eczema
flare ups.
The good news is that there are quite a few home remedies for eczema and some of them can even be found right in
your pantry.
Because eczema is characterized by dry skin, a lot of home remedies used target moisturizing the skin to remedy
the problem. Here are some common moisturizers used:
Aloe vera is a terrific moisturizer to relieve itching and hydrate the skin. If you
have eczema on your scalp you can use an aloe vera shampoo. If it is on your body, aloe vera creams
and soaps can be used. When using creams it is best to apply them right after you get out of the shower as
your skin is damp and will "drink up" the cream quicker.
If you have fresh aloe vera available, you can also apply it directly to your skin after cutting the leaf open.
Aloe vera contains protein, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamins A, B12 and E, essential fatty acids and has 18
additional amino acids which are a part of the reason why it is accredited with healing so many physical disorders.
It's also naturally rich in Germanium and vitamin C.
Aloe vera cranks up blood circulation and this aids in oxygen and nutrient exchange
between cells. This is why it is such an effective topical natural remedy for eczema and other disorders that range
from acne to sunburn.
Coconut oil is also effective treatment for eczema as it helps seal in skin moisture as it is
over 90% pure saturated fat. Unlike mineral oil it can be used without any side effects. It's been used on the
Indian sub-continent for hundreds of years to ease skin and hair dryness. Simply apply it directly to affected
areas.
Sun bathing can also be a good natural cure for eczema as it aids in killing bacteria to
some degree. Many report good results, although we've heard that for some it merely aggravated the condition.
Oatmeal bath - add 2 cups of colloidal oatmeal to your bath water. Many report that it
helps ease symptoms of itchiness.
Spearmint leaf juice is another commonly used as a natural cure for eczema. Just take
whole leaves, grind them with a mortar and pestle until they have a paste like consistency and apply to effected
areas. Spearmint contains an astringent compounds that helps reduce inflamed tissues which is why it is another
effective remedy.
One home remedy for eczema that isn’t so widely known is camphor. You can make an eczema
remedy by combining a tablespoon of it with sandal wood. Mix it until it has a paste like consistency and then
apply it to effected area.
