Home Remedy for
Athletes Foot
Not Just For Athletes Although this pretty common health problem gets a bad rap from
athletes, it's by no means limited to just athletes. It's also not limited in its infectious area to just the feet.
It can infect arms and legs, groin area, between fingers or just about any other place that gives it a hospitable
growing condition (wet / moist for extended periods of time.)
How It's Transmitted Many believe it to be transferable only through locker room floors.
This also is a myth. Infected clothing like work boots and socks can transmit the fungus.
What It Is Athelete's foot is known as trichophyton and is a ring worm fungus. It's still
unknown as to why some people and others don't. For example some people can live together for years without
transmitting the fungus while some who come into contact with someone who has it may get it in 1 or 2 exposures. If
the fungus gets under the toe nails treatment needs to be more aggressive and prolonged. Simply because getting
under the nail is no easy task.
Treatments For Athletes Foot Topical creams work fairly quickly stuff like terbinafine based
athletes foot cream like Lamisil.
Some home remedies for athlets foot include:
Vinegar and water foot baths for 10 minutes twice a day are effective in milder cases.
Black walnut is also fairly effective for milder cases if applied at least twice a day.
Thyme oil has strong anti fungal properties as well as some anti-oxidant properties.
It can be mixed with Tea Tree and Clove Bud oil to increase it's efficacy. One drop of each can be added to a
carrier oil and applied 2 or 3 times a day.
Preventative Maintenance Helps But no matter what type of treatment you use, keeping your
feet as dry as possible is key to cleaning up the problem quickly. Simply put, the fungus thrives on warmth and
wetness. So keeping your feet as cool and dry as possible is the best way to see quick results. Wear sandals as
much as possible and let your feet breathe.
